Worth the Wait program

In 2007, the SHAC concluded a six-month review of the district's abstinence education curriculum, as well as two other programs. In April 2007, SHAC members voted to recommend to the school board that the district make application as a grant school in the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio's abstinence curriculum, Worth the Wait, for grades 5 through high school.

The curriculum is based upon medical and legal facts regarding teen sexual activity which teaches abstinence as the healthiest choice for teens. In addition to the curriculum, Worth the Wait program components include: teacher training conferences, district-wide training seminars, healthcare professional seminars, community involvement, and research.
