Applicaton Process for Teachers and Administrators

ATTENTION TEACHER AND ADMINISTRATOR APPLICANTS:

Thank you for considering employment with the Boerne ISD. All professional and para-professional job openings are posted on the BISD website. Please do not randomly call the HR Department to see if there are any positions open.

Here is a description of the internal employment procedures used by the Boerne ISD. Each campus or Central Office administrator has appropriate access to online employment applications. They will review the applications that are relevant to their open positions. Based upon their review, they will choose which applicants they want to interview. The administrator will contact you if you are chosen. Not all applicants will be interviewed. The administrator will then recommend their choice to the Director of Personnel. The recommendation is subject to the review and acceptance of the Director of Personnel. If the Director of Personnel accepts the recommendation, then he will in turn recommend employment of the applicant to the Board of Trustees at their next scheduled meeting. Until approved by the Board of Trustees, the applicant has no legal or contractual right to employment with the Boerne ISD. Final employment for a teacher is contingent upon the teacher meeting the highly qualified requirements of the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) and the Texas Education Agency. Final employment of all candidates is contingent upon a successful criminal history clearance. Criminal history checks will not be performed unless you are offered a position of employment.

Here are some frequently asked questions that will help you with the application process and procedures:

  1. Question: I need help with the online application system. Whom do I call for assistance? Answer: Contact Diane Guerrero @ 830-357-2078 or you may email her at diane.guerrero@boerne-isd.net.

Remember: You must attach your college transcripts to your application.

  1. Question: I am not sure whether I am highly qualified or certified for the position that is posted. Whom do I call for assistance with my qualifications? Answer: Contact Deborah Burow, Certification Specialist @ 830-357-2070 or by email @ deborah.burow@boerne-isd.net.
  2. Question: I am interested in a particular position. May I contact the administrator in charge of the position to introduce myself? Answer: There are no prohibitions to doing so. However, please do not call the administrator to set up a random interview. If they are interested in you as an applicant, they will contact you for an interview.
  3. Question: Why does the Boerne ISD handle its hiring procedures this way - meaning why doesn't the HR Department conduct interviews and make the recommendations for hire? Answer: The campus or Central Office administrator is directly responsible for the performance of their hires. Therefore, it is important that they conduct the interviews and make the initial recommendations.
  4. Question: Will it serve me any purpose to make contact with the Director of Personnel directly? Answer: No, unless the Director of Personnel has initiated direct contact with you previously or has identified himself as a point of contact with reference to a specific position.
  5. Question: What kind of training is provided to teachers who are new to the Boerne ISD? Answer: Formal training is provided in August prior to the start of school. A significant and important part of training is provided under the direction of the District's dedicated elementary and secondary mentors. You are prepared in every way to make your transition to the Boerne ISD as smooth and as rewarding as possible.
  6. Question: What exactly is the mentor program? Answer: Our mentor program is like no other. We have a dedicated elementary and secondary mentor whose jobs are to help you be the best teacher that you can be. Our mentors are former "master teachers" for the Boerne ISD. They will mentor you throughout your career at the Boerne ISD and will assist you with every aspect of your teaching duties including but not limited to classroom instruction, management and discipline. They will also be available to counsel you on an individual basis during times of personal difficulty or crisis should you desire that they do so. Our philosophy is to address the "whole person". You are more than just an employee number.
